New Glaucoma Drug Offers Hope for those with Eye Drop Allergies.
For those patients with glaucoma that have dry eyes or allergies to the common preservative benzylkonium chloride, there is now hope. Travatan Z (travaprost O.OO4%), which was recently approved by the FDA is now available to the public. Travatan Z has a new preservative called Sofzia. Preservatives are present in most eye drops because they are necessary to prevent growth of microbial organism. The approval of Travatan Z was based on a double-masked, randomized multi- center study.
